HELP!!!

I have discovered the Problem of Evil:
1) I hate mando pop
2) I (now) (Yes yes, i know this is terribly late) love Jay Chou
3) Jay Chou is a subset of mando pop!
I hate mando pop, but I LOVE JAY CHOU!

AAAH ): I am horribly traumatized at my own passions. WHY WHY WHY must my love for Jay Chou be so star-crossed!

yes, auntie karen is quite nice. although i don't know her as well as charm. sometimes, i think when we rush around for ourselves, the people around us get smaller and smaller. i think we need to know the difference between what our hormones tell to do (procreate, get hormonal, contribute to the economic welfare of the society. i think we are under the evil influence of evolution. for survival) and what your mind really wants to do, if there's a difference in the first place (i think there is)

math was...ah well. anyway, i met a friend today, and he was lamenting about how our (maths) syllabus is just about learning techniques. like how to compute distributions with G.C, and knowing how to integrate.

"do you know what calculus is used for?"
"..."
"that means you don't know."
"not surprising. in fact, if you go and ask a bunch of sec. school teachers, they would probably be stumped too...this system is so f**ked up..."

actually, he tried explaining it to me. but i didn't understand the impact of what he said. it's for appropriating limits..you know that graph where x tends to infinity and you can approximate the area? ya.

and it has applications in statistics. what's so cool about statistics is that it allows you to find the probability of your hypothesis, tested with a sample size, with respect to the mean of the population. the best part is, you don't need to know the mean of the population (anyway, if you do, which is a very cumbersome task that uses too much unnecessary resources, you don't need stats.)

and that is done through calculus. :D although i don't know the math behind it.

i hope i make sense. calculus has its applications.

The difference between our class blog and most other class blogs amuses me sometimes (for the epitomized "Other Kind of Class Blog", see 06S7E). Not that I lament the difference - ours is kinda heartwarming and funny. But sometimes it doesn't hurt to take a leaf out of their books, I guess.

It may be premature to talk about our 'college life coming to a close' and all that soppy, boo-hoo reflection, but it just hit me that it isn't too early to realize that we've already wasted whiled away a good part of Hwachong Life. You know me, this isn't going to be about school work and catching up. And surprise - this isn't going to be about us either! Can you count 5 from the the number of staff members (teaching and non teaching) who know your person and can single you out from the brown mush that is our student population? Hands up if Ang Wee Hiong knows who you are (and I mean that without the aid of school admission records). Hands up if you know the name of that cleaning aunty whose greatest career goal is to throw away our class bench. Even our tutors (with the exception of special relations TBB and Steve/Jon/Weix share) typically don't know a lot more than our registered names and our faces for attendance taking's sake.

I was actually quite resigned to this way of life in College, finally realizing that conquering the world was quite impossible, until I met this rather special woman in school. But then again, perhaps she was only special because we took the time to know each other.

Her name is Karen. She cleans the Science Research Block. A kindly, fifty-something lady with a bilingual proficiency that puts 90% of us here to shame, who told us to call her Karen. (And no, she looks nothing like Karen Neo, whom by the way, I met again in Toa Payoh during the hols!)

We (siewch, me and a couple of other kids in AEP) became friendly when she spied us banging our heads in exasperation and dying of desperation, being locked out of the artrooms on Monday mornings. A friendly favour became routine, as we seek her out every morning and cajole her keys from her.

Sometimes she came in to clean the rooms while we worked. And that was when all the fun began. She would tease us all, laughing when the boys tried to tease her back. When our room became infested with evil ants, the AEP kids launched a frantic search-and-destroy mission, Aunty Karen and another cleaning lady we've learnt to recognize but not name gave us a Buddhist lesson in respecting all life forms, all the while laughing at our paranoia.

She recited idioms and popular Tang poetry to me, stopping to dish out some of life's little pointers in a friendly, unaffected way. I ask her for Chinese translations sometimes.

One day, I was working alone in the sculpture studio, and found Aunty Karen cleaning out the kiln room. She was sweaty and dusty all over, but she grinned when she saw me, and said she was glad for the company. She worked quietly and cheerfully, but not without introducing me to things I never knew about the studio. They were not things to do with art - like how to operate the kiln, or what temperature yields the best glaze etc, but things that only one who had spent countless of hours and tender care would know. We joked, and she sat down to her recyled water bottle and cartoonish lunch box later to watch me while I worked.

Those who know her never meet her without a resounding greeting. And I can't help but wonder if there's an Aunty Karen in every member of the Hwach staff waiting to be discovered, if only we didn't drop our eyes and and quicken our pace when our paths crossed.

Fifty points to the person who finds out the name of the scary indian cleaning aunty who threatens us every morning!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY SIOBHAN!!! we love youu! haha=D

approximations is NOT tested. actually i asked colin by sms too but he nv reply-.- but there's a list of topics tested on IVLE, and the teacher just put Normal Distribution. no "and Approximations". haha

oh weixiang i think the gp homework isn't there anymore. i went to school today. our class bench [with the 06s60 sticker] seems to have been moved to the last-time-s66-position. either that or they moved the benches around for fun but our position still remains. oh well. either way, i didn't see a stack of anything on any of the class benches [i guess..unless i didn't notice.] i was at the s66 class bench studying the whole day.
good luck to you weixiang >.<

A man was drinking in a bar when he noticed this beautiful young lady sitting next to him. ''Hello there,'' says the man, ''and what is your name?''

''Hello,'' giggles the woman, ''I'm Stacey. What's yours?''

''I'm Jim.''

''Jim, do you want to come over to my house tonight? I mean, right now??''

''Sure!'' replies Jim, ''Let's go!''

So Stacey takes Jim to her house and takes him to her room. Jim sits down on the bed and notices a picture of a man on Stacey's desk. ''Stacey, I noticed the picture of a man on your desk,'' Jim says.

''Yes? And what about it?'' asks Stacey.

''Is it your brother?''

''No, it isn't, Jim!'' Stacey giggles. Jim's eyes widen, suspecting that it might be Stacey's husband.

When he finally asks, ''Is it your husband?''

Stacey giggles even more, ''No, silly!'' Jim was relieved.

''Then, it must be your boyfriend!''

Stacey giggles even more while nibbling on Jim's ear. She says, ''No, silly!!''

''Then, who is it?'' Jim asks.

Stacey replies, ''That's me BEFORE my operation!!''

It's wise to remember how easily e-mail can be misused, sometimes unintentionally, with serious consequences.

Consider the case of the Illinois man who left the snow-filled streets of Chicago for a vacation in Florida. His wife was on a business trip and was planning to meet him there the next day. When he reached his hotel, he decided to send his wife a quick e-mail.

Unfortunately, when typing her address, he missed one letter, and his note was directed instead to an elderly woman whose husband had passed away only the day before. When the grieving widow checked her e-mail, she took one look at the monitor, let out a piercing scream, and fell to the floor in a dead faint.

At the sound, her family rushed into the room and saw this note on the screen:

Dearest Wife, Just got checked in. Everything prepared for your arrival tomorrow.

P.S. Sure is hot down here.

Dion:using miaoqin's account, haha i guess everyone's quite dead from all the mugging

so here's some jokes from http://jokes.comedycentral.com/random_joke.aspx?joke_id=6418 :

Three friends had a good friend named Joe and he was, naturally, an eternal optimist. At every bad situation he would always say ''It could have been worse.'' His friends hated that quality about him, so they came up with a story so horrible that not even Joe could come up with a bright side.

So the next day, only two of his friends showed up for a golf date.

Joe asked, ''Where's Gary?''

And one of his friends said, ''Didn't you hear? Yesterday, Gary found his wife in bed with another man, shot them both, and then turned the gun on himself.''

Joe says,''Well it could have been worse.''

Both his friends said, ''How in hell could it be worse? Your best friend just killed himself!''

Joe says, ''If it had happened two days ago, I'd be dead now!''
