abt SL... having diff days for diff subjects makes sense lar. but then what happens if a volunteer/tutee wants to teach/be taught a certain subject, but can't make it for that particular day or sth? i dunno lar.. just a thought...

i know this is kinda late, but it'll be HARD to escape the sports meet this year.

i saw the marshalling plan and npcc cadets are situated at the terraces near the college side WITH college teachers! and they were told not to allow anyone to go to the college, including college girls.

yuppyup, but let's try still!

i doubt anyone will be reading this anyway.

haha gaby...i didnt mean to sound like i was going to burn out soon...i think i am kind of over enthu abt the whole thing hahaha. thanks sara abt the suggestion to be specialised in specific subjects and abt the time management lesson too. i will add tt into the proposal. as for the ppp, we wont be providing refreshments daily, so hopefully the ppp acts as some kind of incentive to join. But dont worry, the ppp will be a small scale one tt most prob involves cheap snacks and home-cooked food, so the budget wouldnt be very high. What does the rest of the cls think abt this?

Btw, we will need to form sub-committees for the programme. Currently, i have thot of a few sub-coms:
1) Physics
2) Chem
3) Bio
4) IT/ Online quiz
5) Publicity
6) Recruitment of volunteers(someone w lots of free sms on ur hp plan cos u wld need to remind volunteers to turn up)
7) Study skills course
8) PPP-food
9) PPP-games
10) Treasurer(to account for amt of money spent)
11) Secretary(to compile the solutions and make copies for everyone)
12) I/Cs for each individual days(to plan the allocation of duties for each day and be in charge of the attendance taking and other stuff for the day)

As for sara's suggestion that we shld have separate days for each subject, i think tts a rather great idea too as it facilitates the signing up of volunteers and allocation of their cip hours. What do the rest of u think of it?

there are no chalets offered to the j2?

Geordie
6:14 PM

* * * * * * * * *

LATEST regarding stayover at the fac outing chalets, there was prior arrangement to offer the chalets to 2 j1 classes with the best turnout (I think 66 and 6J). So you may not be able to sleep over at the chalets! Do find alternative arrangements if you're still keen on a sleepover.

sorry, but i feel kinda queasy about the fact that the only reason why you guys want to get an SL project done is for a pretty portfolio. Okay, a little more than queasy: this is disturbing. I cannot approve.

but for the purposes of the success of the project, it might be unnecessary to provide for all three sciences. we are, afterall, trying to provide a service we can afford. I would like to take part in all these, but given the circumstances, I hope you understand if I dont register this in my portfolio (not that I think you guys will mind).

On a second note, I am impressed by Ms Neo's decision! She has done what I think most don't dare to.

pauline you sound like you're in for a burnout so i don't mind helping!

(obviously not feeling like sleeping yet)

On Chestnut Drive SL - I think we should get volunteers to sign up as peer tutors for only one subject at a time. meaning, people for phys, chem and bio respectively. I was asked to teach chem last year and it was quite horrible. There needs to be a better matching of skills to the task.

2ndly, are the 3 sciences going to be reviewed at the same time or on different days? all at once is a bit haphazard.

3rdly, it won't be too hard to recruit people as long as you dangle CIP points and free refreshments. no need for ppp!

4thly, we could conduct a short study skills course at the beginning of the thing. to teach them abt time management and drawing up study schedules (not like anyone follows them, but it's nice to have)

I don't mind helping with proposal!

selling stuff is kind of overdone, don't you think?

Saturday, April 28, 2007

2nd announcement regarding the class sl project. In view of the fact tt one sl project may not be enough for our portfolios, there are 2 other ideas also, but these wld be done after bt2 since we shld focus on the peer tutoring one first.

1) Car wash: We will wash cars for school tchers(both college and high sch) and the funds we collect will be donated to an organisation. (Mq suggested an organisation to do w cancer patients.) After tt, we will make a trip down to the organisation to interact w the patients or perform for them and also to present the funds.

2) We can raise funds by selling stuff(seng suggested teddy bears, jon suggested lollipops, i suggested famous amos cookies) and the funds we get can be used to buy some daily necessities or other stuff, and we can visit one room flats to help elderlies clear up plus present the stuff to them.

Any suggestions or comments? Choose which one u prefer from the above!

Btw, we can get funds to start off our project from the National Youth Council.

Hi pple, this is regarding the class sl project again.

Currently, some of us have discussed abt it and decided tt perhaps we can participate in planning for Mrs Chong's peer tutoring programme(see EMB for details).

1)For the peer tutoring prog we will require some bio pple, and if u all dont mind, i can pull in a few bio pple to be in the committee to help us recruit bio pple like their clsmates or jnrs.

2)We will also need to form sub-committees for the project. For example, some pple to take charge of chem, physics and bio respectively, publicity, and also a committee to be in charge of allocation of volunteers.

3) To make out proposal more special(so tt we stand out against other grps!), we can have an online quiz for the students to try out at the end of each day. And on the last day of the programme, we can have a post programme party to reward the efforts of the volunteers and the students we are helping. (But tt means we have to come up with some money from our own pockets --> but to make our proposal look better, we have to do smthng different!!!)

4) Bcos of the 2 suggestions above, we can form 2 or 3 more committees and this will make us look like we did lots of works to prepare for the sl project haha!

Please comments and give suggestions! By the way, we have to hand in the proposal really soon, by 4 May, so i need a confirmation before i can proceed with the writing of the proposal.

(Anyway, is anyone still interested in the original car wash idea? I feel like turning it into an SL project too, just tt not the whole cls needs to participate if u all dont want to.)

I am definitely pissed.....
I know it was partly my fault, for not logging out of my friendster account... Or perhaps, it's the computer's fault for remembering my username and password somehow....
But what would you guys do when u open the web and another person's account is there?
I would absolutely not change that person's profile and talk bad about that person (someone whom I barely know).
BUT, the opposite happened to me today... Some stupid person decided to change the whole of my profile. If not for my friend who smsed me to tell me, I will be known from today onwards as "a fat indon girl who types like dis"...
How stupid can Hwa Chong student be, really????
And tell me that words do not matter,,,, Well, they do...

trust me, the nature of faculty outings have been the crux of our considerations in trying to up attendance. But honestly, it's a little hard to convince people that fac outings are worth it, if they don't give it a chance. I dont believe you've gone for any of the fac outings organized by this faculty committe, zichong. if you look into the fac programmes, you'll realize that everything is organized for individual CTs, so you -will- 'like and know' everyone you have to interact with.
anyhoo, forget it - what you will. I guess, out of respect for free will and the free market, i shouldnt apply pressure on the class to attend. so i'll stop.

has anyone gotten tshirt printing quotations?
also, do we (j2s) have to attend sports day? i notice that the tents are up on the terraces already.

Charmaine
12:34 PM

* * * * * * * * *

go read the first page of 'review' in today's straits times. basically, andy ho questions if our school's missions are just hypes.

not that i disagree with him (obviously hci doesnt have that environment to foster nobel winning scientists [how do chem tutorials help?] or simwonghoos [doesnt the school know that all that the best business idea competition does is to give more opportunities to portfolio chasers and train business proposal writing skills in a vacuum?], but doesnt that same criticism apply to all schools in general?

nevertheless, i take his point that when we are formulating missions for schools, we should not use concrete markers (e.g. to be a prime minister) but should employ intangible indicators (e.g. to develop confidence) instead. even if it is only a matter of substituting the result for its cause, the bottomline is that school shouldnt be seen as a mere tool in the whole scheme of things.

what say you?

i'm fine with both scribbles 1 and 2. haha.

i think the limited edition slogan is funny but sis says she wouldn't understand it as an outsider. so i guess i support the Procrastinators one and the Nobody knows i'm from sixoh one. hehe. or the I love me one.

i can't wait for it to be done! =)

hmmm yea i prefer small gatherings to big ones because i don't like crowds either.

Miao Qin
10:37 PM

* * * * * * * * *

i personally find class outings more attractive than fac stuff. First, in class outings i know and like everyone. Second, the activities are organised by us hence it would naturally be more attractive to us. Third, I dont like big rowdy parties esp ones where people have to go on stage to embarrass themselves.

Hence because of these reasons, other unknown variables associated with fac outings, and a lack of sufficient loyalty to overcome the above factors, I generally do not participate.

I find it more reasonable to look into the nature of fac outings to explain unsatisfactory attendence. Individuals will always maximise their own good. The free market reigns.

should there be a class outing, charm cant make it on good friday (but go ahead anyway), because your beloved fac com will be doing some major saikang work in preparation for the fac outing. besides, dear classmates, i think class movie marathons are becoming a bit of an overkill.

I strongly advise against having both a slogan and a scribble (slogans were provisions for other designs, not unlike the heart one, mainly to appease anti-scribble voters.) The idea of a scribble was to keep it nice and simple, and like yarn said, difficult to screw up. I will work on it though, but meanwhile, could someone get quotations for Tshirt printing? I'm too busy to handle everything. Thanks.

current vote tally:
scribble 1: 9 votes
scribble 2: 1 vote.
anti-scribble: 2

(THE FOLLOWING PARAGRAPHS ARE PRE-EMPTIVE STRIKES AGAINST FACULTY-APATHY)
I think I post way too many times, so I'm going to throw everything into one post. (esp to qintan and her kao): If you're all -really- so keen on 'class outings', why don't you make this fac outing a class outing? Like Ronnie Quek said, it might be our last - especially since wonderful people like steve, waihong, yangsai won't be with us after A levels ): Plus, there will be inter-CT sports/games competitions, and (i'm letting the cat out of the bag, but all in the name of publicity!) intra-faculty war games! It'll be fun, I promise. And it'll be your last organized activity as a faculty.

Plus plus plus, we're crowning the new Fac Prince and Princess. You can help make sure my number one gets voted in! (assuming he's still in our faculty..) We need to take charge of voting!- we cant afford another Ricky for fac prince! lol, just kidding.

Knowing all of you, the cost of the ticket is going to raise a bit of hell but we're already working as hard as we can to keep the price down. By far, we still have the cheapest fac outing fee among all the faculties, and really, if you guys can afford all the fancy equipment/accessories/clothes blahblah, you should be able to afford this. Frankly speaking, if you're not willing to afford this ticket, then don't come here and blog about your intense passion and enthusiasim for class outings (because we know that the 'class outings' we organize ourselves never include everyone). (:

Charmaine

aiyah the slogans are (I think) not outstanding and the scribble is nice and simple so I think just the scribble would do? I guess simplicity reduces the chances of disaster. Though I have full confidence in Charmaine's artistic capabilities! (: but no point taking excess risks la

I vote for scribble 1. It's nice and simple. (also voted the other scribble, hope you guys do well and have fun in council etc etc) We could put it at the back and slogan at the front... yknow, for easier spotting of classmates from the back.

haha, as for the secondary school photos thing...geordie are you sure you don't have a photo of yourself in sec sch chinese high uniform? I've seen a Sec 1 class photo of geordie, chen, and kao in SEC 1 MWAHAHAHA!!! My, they look like small little cute boys, but chen looks still looks like chen, though a little more wide-eyed and happy :P . geordie was much plumper in sec 1. hehehe.

blackmail! :D

hey charm, thanks for taking charge of the class tee thingy. the designs are all nice and artistic, but me thinks design 2 is the nicest. it's the most 'compact' or streamlined. design 3 a little too complex. design 1 is nice but the two long vertical streaks are abt the same height, so not as harmnonious as design 2.

as for the tagline, i think "I'm Looking For My Class. Where's Sixoh?" is cute hehe.

what's the shirt going to be like? Collared? or V-neck? Or normal round-neck? The ladies cut and guys cut division is a very good idea.

a suggestion is for the shirt to be lime-green, to reflect Athena colours. with black wordings. however, white is also ok.

thanks charm! people, vote soon! :)

Okay, here's one design. I had to scribble about 20 times to get it aesthetically appealing. I hope you find it aesthetically appealing too. Simplicity, as our beloved KI teacher says, is a Virtue.

White T shirt (preferably fitting for girls): Design across chest area (typical branded tshirt style :P), Front, in Black.
